Me-TV is one of those nostalgia channels that have gained much popularity with the switch to digital TV. While broadcast TV stations used to have only one channel to use, the new digital bandwidth gives them three or four. So services like Me-TV, Retro TV and Antenna TV offer a ready-made platter of classic TV shows for stations to offer. They all have pretty solid line-ups of shows, though I think they’re all just a tad lacking in the Saturday Morning department. Likely that’s because Hanna-Barbera, who provided the lion’s share of it, has all their stuff on Cartoon network and Boomerang. Me-TV has some of the Filmation library, but only run He-Man and She-Ra.
Me-TV has taken a further step, and is offering more classic TV via streaming on its website. This includes a LOT of classic animation, including Hoppity Hooper, Colonel Bleep and (ehhh…) Clutch Cargo.
The cartoon above is called “Destination Earth”, and was produced by the country’s oil manufacturers. It is amazing to watch it and see what has changed in the country’s mindset, and what hasn’t.
