I See Posts Before My Eyes

A moral conundrum in today’s Pond Life

Bear in mind, I’m surely looking too deeply at this.  In funny episodes of shows, the same rules do not always apply.

But…

The Ood are a sentient race who essentially have a partial lobotomy preformed upon them to turn them into servants.  That wasn’t made clear in their first appearance, so The Doctor didn’t give them much thought. But in Planet of the Ood, it’s made more clear what’s done to them.

So in this episode, we see The Doctor has dropped an Ood still very much in Servant Mode with the Ponds, and told them to just let him putter about the house helping.

I must assume that part of the process of a Ood emancipating itself must come slowly, as they slowly begin to realize they don’t have to serve.  Then comes free thought, and hopefully, re-connection with the Ood mind.  Effectively, very similar to the process Kryten went through in Red Dwarf.

But Amy and Rory don’t KNOW that’s the process.  They’re the ones feeling guilty about him doing up for them, The Doctor seems quite blase about it.

All I’m saying is there more going on here than on the surface.

Here’s hoping we don’t see this in the next episode…
