Francis Underwood is good, very good, and he plays his power games in a more realistic fashion. But Francis Urquhart’s power plays were so elegant that they were more fun to watch.
By being more realistic than the original, it made the new show more believable. It was more interesting that Underwood’s plays didn’t go perfectly, and he had the smarts to change them as he went.
His wife is a far more complete character than Elizabeth in the original - she had barely anything to do other than to make sure she was out of the house when required. Here’ she has her own life, a life that sometime came at odds with Francis.
I’m pleased to hear the second season has already been picked up.
