Anonymous asked: Is giving Batman a son as big of a hindrance as making Spider-Man a husband? Is it bad, long-term, for the character?
Only time will tell. People seem to like Damien, but I just can’t wrap my head around how he’s supposed to make sense in a world in which Batman hasn’t been around all that long. How old do they figure Batman is these days?
This is one of several “eat their cake and have it too” situations that the New 52 caused. The conceit was that when we came on board, the various heroes had been around for about five years. They hastily added that Batman was around “for a little longer” working in the shadows, not officially going public.
I can’t imagine Damien is any younger than ten. So I assume the meeting and canoodling with Talia had to have happened while he was still training to be Batman - far enough along in his training that Ras Ahl Ghul saw promise.
Now of course, after Convergence, things have shifted again, so the five year rule may have shifted again. But regardless, Damien is a good and entertaining character, and any timeline gymnastics required to make his life and story fit are worth the work.
