I See Posts Before My Eyes

daour asked: Did that New Avengers / Transformer crossover take place in Earth-616 or in a different reality, like the Crossoververse?

Does it matter?

I think so, at least to a degree.  If an event happened in the “real” Marvel Universe (for lack of a better term), it allows the door to open for it being mentioned in another book in the future.  If it’s a rights issue, and you could never mention those events or characters outside that story, then they could not spark off another story unless references to the events or characters were very vague.  A piece of technology from “those robots aliens that invaded” or something.

To switch to the TV/movie side of things, the most recent episode of Agents of SHIELD is an example of that.  If the decision was made that the movies and TV shows took place in different realities/Earths, that story could not have happened.  We’ll certainly not see any reference to events in the next X-Men or Spider-Man movies, for that very reason.

The DC shows cannot likely directly reference move events, as they’re often done by different production companies, and they don’t have the rights to do so.  So they have less opportunity to “cross-promote” as Marvel does.
