Well, reigniting the x-gene would mean people who once had powers and lost them to Wanda’s editorial fiat, as opposed to simply making it possible for new mutants to be born.  the latter would suggest that we wouldn’t see a crop of new mutants for quite a few years, as they would have to grow up enough for their powers to activate, as well as be old enough to safely participate in the action in a comic adventure,

I suppose she might have randomly created the X-gene in people who weren’t mutants before so you’d have adults suddenly gaining powers, but that’s too similar to another current plotline.
