Anonymous asked: I've never understood the race analogue of X-Men, they're a much better metaphor for sexuality...
I think the X-Men are analogous to any number of different things. Which is one of the beauties of the concept—all kinds of different people can find something to relate to in their struggle.
Like so many literary creations, they stand for many different things for different people at different times. There are those who maintain The One Ring was an analogue for the A-Bomb.
As time passes, the X-Men have become analogues to race relations, puberty, sexual oppression, and so many more.
The film A Face in the Crowd was made back when Arthur Godfrey ruled the airwaves, and if anyone was the single inspiration of the film, it was him. But now it can be seen to be about any of the media stars (kings of all media, dare I say?) that are around today.
