I See Posts Before My Eyes

Anonymous asked: Dan Didio was right. Kids read Marvel and grown-ups read DC. If Geoff Johns ever becomes a fre-agent I would snag him. Your current team is sub-standard. Original Sin was a yawn and a half.

This is a funny statement, considering that Dan is a huge Marvel fan, and has been trying for years to make the DC books more like Marvel’s.

I’d be willing to bet that it’s likely that he still reads more Marvel books than DC books.

(Hi, Dan!)

I agree with you on your assessment of Geoff, having worked with him on most of his Marvel stuff years ago.

But the rest of what you’re saying here is nonsense.

I think Dan may have been talking about the lines’ main audiences.  Most hardcore DC readers have been reading DC for many years, as in before several, if not all the various reboots.  This is why so many of its readers (raises hand) are cranky about all the changes to their favorite characters.

I think Mr. Anon is interpreting it as if children read Marvel, then grow up and move to DC.  I don’t think that’s the case, I think people pretty much keep reading what they started with, and either keep reading that, or stop reading comics altogether.  Save for the odd new title and a bit of dabbling in the opposite end of the pool, most people continue to dance with the one they came with.

I’m sure there’s lots of long-time adult Marvel readers, but I don’t think they’re as vocal and vehement in their opinions as DC fans are.

I’ve been reading DC books for over 40 years now.  My zeal and fervor for DC continuity far surpasses that for Marvel.  I read a fair number of Marvel books, but save for Dan Slott’s run on Spider-Man, there’s no title I really invest any real emotion in, if that doesn’t sound odd.  I read Marvel books passively, not really caring or minding about any major change. OMD was the last story I really had a reaction to negative enough to comment online.  But you’ll notice I said I’m still reading Spidey.

But I talk a LOT about the changes at DC, as I “care” a lot more about them.  Not to the point of actively and honestly wishing the creators any ill, but certainly making it clear I’m not happy when I see major changes made.

I find this kind of dumb altogether. I don’t see how you could sum all of (or even as a majority of) DC books as for...

As a child I read anything I could get my hands on. As an adult, I read Marvel and Image.
